In the structure of retail turnover of the member countries of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), the share of e-commerce currently stands at about 19%: according to forecasts by the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC), this figure will reach 30% by 2030. These data were presented at the plenary session of the XIV International Forum on Anti-Counterfeiting-2026 in Astana by the Minister of Economy and Financial Policy of the EEC, Bakhit Sultanov.
Current market indicators
According to the minister, the total number of consumers making online purchases in the member states is currently estimated at around 90 million people. The majority of sellers registered on electronic platforms are small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
The need for regulation and risks
With the growth of market volumes, there is a recorded shift of counterfeit (fake) products to online platforms. According to the EEC representative, the growth of digital ecosystems and their transformation into full-fledged economic tools require the introduction of new legal regulation mechanisms. These should define the rights and obligations of market participants, as well as clear measures for the application of responsibility in the online space.
