In the Indian city of Kolkata, the statue of Argentina's national football team captain, world champion, and eight-time Ballon d'Or winner Lionel Messi has been demolished. This was reported by the news agency "Asian News International" (ANI).
Creation of the Structure and Reasons for Protests
The 21-meter tall Indian monument, depicting the Argentine forward holding the World Cup trophy, was unveiled to the public last December during the footballer's official visit to India.
The decision to remove the statue was made by local authorities based on numerous complaints and protests from community residents. According to the concerns raised, the tall structure had technical deficiencies and exhibited instability during strong winds, posing a safety risk to surrounding areas.
To avoid possible collapse and accidents, city officials carried out the complete demolition of the statue.
