David Ishkhanyan's Address from Baku Prison

Yesterday, a preliminary court hearing took place in the Baku Court of Appeals regarding our appeal. We appealed the decision of the Baku Military Court from February 5, and yesterday this case began, with the first court session scheduled for July 2. This was stated by the former Chairman of the National Assembly of Artsakh, David Ishkhanyan, in his address.

“Peace and trial, it is very unique, especially considering the fact that this decision was handed over to us with delays and artificial obstacles on April 21, and it would not be surprising if I say that until now neither the defense side nor the prosecution side has received the full text of this verdict, they have only received an excerpt,” he noted.

Ishkhanyan stated that he had submitted a request for the full version of the verdict, but the court surprisingly, in some ways also understandably, rejected his request.

“I will have the opportunity to talk about the judicial process, I will have the opportunity to talk about the publicity of the overall process, this time, I think I will be satisfied with that, I just have to say that those who will be able to familiarize themselves with the 15 sections of the indictment already can fully understand what is happening and what is there, that is, this so-called fair, free open trial is a fiction, where there is nothing and is completely censored, under control, a trial of revenge, in this regard, the publicity also takes place in the same way,” Ishkhanyan elaborated.

He added that he also requested on two issues that an open trial be organized with online broadcasting and that Az TV, which is present, be banned from their presence, as they are making manipulative actions and spreading misinformation.

“Here, not unknown, one of the important defenders during his speech could not contain himself, simply burst out and said that we, before our generations, will be ashamed of organizing such a trial, that was the entire assessment,” said the former Chairman of the National Assembly of Artsakh, David Ishkhanyan.

Let us remind that we reported that David Ishkhanyan was sentenced to a long term of imprisonment. He was captured after the last war in Artsakh, during the ethnic cleansing of Artsakh, in September 2023.
