The Russian Foreign Ministry urges Russian citizens traveling abroad to consider the risks of extradition to the USA from third countries. This was stated in an interview with RIA Novosti by the director of the Russian Foreign Ministry's department, Grigory Lukyanchev.
Legal obligations and risks According to the diplomat, many countries in the European Union and other regions have legal obligations for extradition with Washington. Lukyanchev emphasized that the ministry does not restrict citizens' movement but only points out possible dangers for those who may have issues with American or European law enforcement agencies.
Geography of risky countries According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, among the countries with a high likelihood of arrest on US requests are:
Most of Europe and Latin America,
Canada, Australia, South Korea, Singapore, Israel,
Armenia,
Tourist destinations such as Thailand, the Maldives, Sri Lanka, Morocco, Fiji, and others.
The Foreign Ministry adds that the published list is not exhaustive and does not include all states that have active extradition agreements with the United States.
