Rosselkhoznadzor is introducing temporary restrictions on the import of fresh tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, greens, and strawberries originating from Armenia starting May 30, 2026, until the development of a corresponding algorithm for ensuring the safety of the supplied products. This is stated on the official website of Rosselkhoznadzor:
“The decision was made due to the increasing number of violations during the supply of Armenian fruits and vegetables to Russia and to ensure phytosanitary well-being. The situation poses a threat to the phytosanitary condition of the country's territory.
In addition, the competent authorities of Armenia have not taken appropriate measures regarding previously identified violations.
Within the framework of previously reached agreements, Rosselkhoznadzor conducted inspections at Armenian enterprises from May 21 to May 27, 2026, during which a number of violations were identified, namely the presence of quarantine objects for EAEU member states in greenhouse complexes, which is confirmed by periodic cases of their detection during the import of Armenian fruits and vegetables — 181 cases in 2026.
Also, according to the data from the information system of Rosselkhoznadzor, a large quantity of fruits and vegetables is supplied by numerous participants in foreign economic activity from Armenia, whose ownership form is unknown, and who avoid conducting quarantine phytosanitary control. This indicates the absence of a product traceability system among Armenian partners when exporting to Russia,” the message states.
