Kazakhstan and Russia Discuss the Possibility of a New Gas Pipeline to China

The authorities of Kazakhstan and Russia have begun discussions on the prospects of launching a new gas pipeline through the territory of the republic to the People's Republic of China. This was reported to the media by Kazakhstan's Minister of Energy Erlan Akkenzhanov.

Project capacity and transit conditions As the energy minister noted, the parties are discussing the option of constructing a pipeline with a capacity of up to 35 billion cubic meters, which will pass through the territory of Kazakhstan. Although the exact working name of the project is still in the clarification phase, it is being considered in the context of the 'Power of Siberia - 2' project.

Akkenzhanov stated that Astana is interested in having the transit carried out through Kazakhstan's territory. The minister emphasized that the Kazakh side is ready to provide all necessary conditions and guarantees, as well as to act as an additional consumer.

Economic significance for the region For Kazakhstan, this mega-project also has internal strategic significance. The launch of the pipeline will help solve the gasification problem in the northern and eastern regions of the republic, ensuring stable supplies of 'blue fuel' to these areas:
