Donald Trump files amended $10 billion lawsuit against WSJ

U.S. President Donald Trump has filed an amended $10 billion defamation lawsuit against the publication «The Wall Street Journal» (WSJ) and its parent company «News Corp.» in a federal court in Florida. The legal dispute is related to an article published about Trump's alleged close ties with financier Jeffrey Epstein. This was reported by the agency «Bloomberg».

Legal grounds and changes to the lawsuit As the agency notes, the new version of the lawsuit was submitted to the court late Wednesday evening within the timeframe set by the judge. In April of this year, the court dismissed the initial complaint, reasoning that it did not sufficiently demonstrate the presence of actual malice on the part of the journalists, meaning the intentional falsification of information or gross disregard for the truth.

According to «Bloomberg», Trump's lawyer Alejandro Brito noted in the amended lawsuit that the defendant exhibited criminal negligence in the fact-checking process and «deliberately evaded the truth».

Background of the legal proceedings The legal process was triggered by a piece published in July 2025 by «WSJ». The article claimed that in a book dedicated to Epstein's 50th birthday, there was a letter framed in the form of a naked woman with a typewritten text and signed «Donald».

Donald Trump had previously denied the information contained in the publication and, announcing his intention to hold the publisher accountable, filed a multi-billion dollar lawsuit against «Dow Jones & Co.» and the media holding «News Corp.».
